The Ghana event Awards is an annual award ceremony set to recognise, honour and celebrate various indigenous Ghanaian events and organisers who set the pace for excellence in event management across the country.
The scheme is set to highlight organizations as well as individuals who create and successfully execute incredible events that meet international standard and have the tendency of becoming a case study for others.
“I’m not just coming back because it’s the team I support, the team I grew up playing for – I’m coming back because I feel the club can move forward and be successful,” said Rooney, who scored 17 goals in 77 games in his first spell at Goodison.
“I want to be part of it. There will be pressure on me to perform, but I’m ready to go. I believe I can help move this club forward and be more successful on the pitch.”
Rooney says when he spoke to Everton manager Ronald Koeman, he “saw it in his eyes that he wanted me to be part of his team”.
He added: “It was a no-brainer for me and the only place I was going to go.”
Rooney said he told his agent Paul Stretford to “go and speak to them, let’s make it happen” when he found out Everton were interested in signing him and it “was obvious I was going to be leaving Manchester United this summer”.
“There were other options there but once I knew that Everton wanted me to come back then it was the only option for me,” he added.
Three great Rooney goals for Everton
Why Everton want him back
Koeman began talking about Rooney’s potential return as far back as October, stating he would be “pleased” to sign England’s all-time leading goalscorer.
On Sunday, he said: “Wayne has shown me that ambition that we need and that winning mentality – he knows how to win titles and I’m really happy he’s decided to come home.
“He loves Everton and he was desperate to come back. He is still only 31 and I don’t have any doubts about his qualities. It’s fantastic he’s here.
“We have a lot of young players and sometimes in life you need somebody who you look up to, who you learn from. That was also one of the messages when we spoke about on and off the pitch what his function will be in the team.
“One of the functions for Wayne is to show the rest of the team why he is – and still is – that player.”
An Old Trafford exit
Manchester United posted this message on social media on Sunday to mark Rooney’s exit
Rooney, who was often left out of United’s starting line-up by manager Jose Mourinho last season, appeared in 25 league games – the fewest he has played in one season. His total of eight goals in all competitions was also the lowest of his career.
He also lost his place in the England squad, but has not retired from international duty and needs six more caps to equal goalkeeper Peter Shilton’s all-time record of 125 appearances.
Rooney was an unused substitute as United beat Southampton to win the EFL Cup in February, and made only a brief appearance at the end of the Europa League final victory over Ajax in May.
In his 13 seasons with United, he finished as top scorer five times and shared the honour with Cristiano Ronaldo in another campaign. He was also named fans’ player of the year twice.
“It is no secret that I have long been an admirer of Wayne,” said Mourinho. “He has been a model professional throughout his time at the club and will remain in the history books for many years to come.
“It is never easy to see a great player playing less football than he would like and I could not stand in his way when he asked to go back to Everton.
“His experience, focus and determination will be missed and I wish him well for the future.”
Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward added: “Who can forget his storybook debut hat-trick against Fenerbahce, the spectacular overhead kick against Manchester City and the countless match-winning performances in his time here?
“But after much discussion, the club has decided to accept his request to rejoin his boyhood team.”
What is Rooney’s United legacy?
Rooney in one word – fans’ verdict
Andy Mitten, editor of fanzine United We Stand: “The move is best for all parties.
“Rooney will be remembered well by United fans when the dust settles, a club legend who scored more goals than anyone and was a leading light in one of United’s greatest sides.
“Reaching three European Cup finals in four years shows how good that team was. At his best, between 2004 and 2011, he was the finest British player of his generation.
“Rooney’s performances dropped, and being linked with Chelsea and Manchester City did his popularity no favours either, but he’s scored some of the greatest goals I’ve ever seen.
“As a journalist who has interviewed him several times over 12 years, I watched him mature, become more interesting and grow into being a respected Manchester United captain.”

Everton beginnings – ‘He has everything’
Wayne Rooney, aged 10, in 1995
Rooney was brought up by parents Jeanette and Wayne in the Croxteth area of Liverpool alongside brothers Graham and John, with all five members of the household avid Everton supporters.
He joined the Toffees at the age of nine and quickly built a reputation as a precocious talent, scoring 114 goals in 29 matches for the under-10 and under-11 sides.
David Moyes gave him his first-team debut in August 2002, and he quickly became a regular starter, scoring his first Premier League goal – a last-minute winner against Arsenal – five days before his 17th birthday.
The goal led to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger describing Rooney as “the biggest English talent I have seen since I arrived in this country”. Wenger added: “He has everything you dream of for a front player – intelligent feet, quick reactions.”
Rooney became one of world football’s highest-paid teenagers with his boyhood club, but handed in a transfer request in August 2004, leading to him being signed by Sir Alex Ferguson for what was the highest fee paid for a player under 20.
What do Everton fans think?
Two fans fall out over Rooney’s possible return to Everton.
Analysis
BBC Sport’s Simon Stone: Rooney has been slowly eased out of the first team, without there being one single pressure point that signalled a change in Mourinho’s thinking.
The Portuguese has consistently backed Rooney in public – saying as recently as May that he would be “very happy” if the striker stayed at Old Trafford.
But Rooney did not take the chances he was afforded by Mourinho last season, and that made his departure inevitable once Everton pursued their interest.
Rooney signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract during the 2013-14 campaign, which included the option of a further season, but the Old Trafford club had no intention of triggering that clause.
United have waived a fee and may also be funding part of Rooney’s £13m wages.
Wayne Rooney goes top of England goalscoring chart
‘Golden boy; the Pitbull; impulsive’ – Rooney in quotes
“He’s one of those players that, whenever he gets the ball, something seems to happen.” Then England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, 2003.
“Wayne is only 20 and without question the best young player I’ve ever seen.” Then Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, 2005.
“Wayne Rooney is the golden boy of English football. Don’t kill him because you will need him.” Eriksson again, 2006.
“We’ve done nothing but help him since he’s been at this club. We cannot quite understand why he would want to leave.” Ferguson again, 2010.
“I think crazy things happen around him also. He is an impulsive guy like me. In football no-one is perfect. You learn from your mistakes and I like that with him. He is himself; I think that is very important. That is one English player I like more than anyone.” Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 2013.
“I felt he was struggling to get by people and had lost some of his old thrust. As time wore on, I felt he struggled more and more to do it for 90 minutes.” Ferguson in his autobiography, 2013.
Ferguson tells MUTV he is in dark over Rooney request
“He’s been through that generation with the likes of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard. He really feels like he’s the dad figure if you like. He puts his arm around us, brings us together, gets us going.” Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, October 2014.
“I miss playing with Rooney. Maybe we will play together again one day. He was so powerful, I was calling him ‘Pitbull’. The power of Wayne Rooney is his mentality and strength and he never stops.” Cristiano Ronaldo, 2015.
“For me he is the great English player of the generation. What he is capable of doing on the field is very special, and he is one of the few players that would improve any squad in Europe.” Barcelona and Argentina forward Lionel Messi, 2016.
“Cristiano had an absolute desire to be the best individual in the world. Wayne would say: ‘I want to be the world’s best but I’ll do it by being a team player.’ That has not allowed him to be the 40-goals-a-season man he could have been.” Former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand, 2017.
“Once a blue, always a blue” – Wayne Rooney’s testimonial for Manchester United against boyhood club Everton at Old Trafford in August 2016
Reaction
United winger Jesse Lingard: “All the best skipper in the next chapter of your amazing career. Been an absolute pleasure and learned so much.”
United midfielder Ander Herrera: “One day I will be able to tell my grandkids I played with you. All the best and thank you.”
Former United defender Gary Neville: “All the best Wayne Rooney and congratulations on a great United career. The best striker I played with and saw at the club.”
Rooney’s wife, Coleen: “The time has come to leave Man Utd …. 13 great years at the club! Thank you all for making our family so welcome and treating us so well.”
Jay-Z is finally divulging more about his relationship with Beyonce and the long-time infidelity rumors that have plagued the power couple.
The rapper released a mini-documentary titled “Footnotes for ‘4:44,'” part of his new album released exclusively on Tidal. In the 11-minute video, Jay-Z confessed his relationship with his singer wife wasn’t completely built on truth.
“This is my real life. I just ran into this place and we built this big, beautiful mansion of a relationship that wasn’t totally built on the 100 percent truth and it starts cracking,” Jay-Z said about his high-profile marriage. “Things start happening that the public can see.”
“Then we had to get to a point of, ‘Okay, tear this down and let’s start from the beginning’…It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” he added.
The video continued with a montage of celebrities including Will Smith, Chris Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Aziz Ansari and Mahershala Ali talking about their relationship experiences.
Jay-Z also recalled the fight to keep relationship alive, thinking back to a time on a boat when he was “crushed” hearing Beyonce had to leave and even begging her to stay.
“What is happening to my body right now? Did I just say … ‘Don’t leave’? All this is new for me,” he said.
The rapper said he played “4:44” for Beyonce and admitted it was “uncomfortable,” but that it had to be done in order to keep everything transparent.
“We just got to a place where, in order for this to work, this can’t be fake. Not one ounce. I’m not saying it wasn’t uncomfortable because obviously it was,” he told his celebrity friends in the room.
“But because we have been doing it for so long it was less uncomfortable,” he added.
Infidelity rumors came into the spotlight after Beyonce released her album “Lemonade” last year, alleging that Jay-Z had fooled around with a woman who was coined “Becky with the good hair.” The rapper released his album on June 30, around the same time news broke that the couple’s twins were born.
“4:44” addressed the Beyonce’s allegations of betrayal head on, from the infamous elevator dispute with Solange, to the birth of their three children and the “Becky.”

Hailed by The Guardian as one of the best TV series of 2017 so far for its “heady stew of gothic revenge tale and colonial critique”
Starring Oscar-nominee Tom Hardy; co-written by Oscar-nominee Steven Knight; directed by The Killing’s Kristoffer Nyholm; and executive produced by four-time Oscar nominee Ridley Scott
You can now binge-watch Taboo, Tom Hardy’s hit new series, first and exclusively on Showmax in Africa.
Hardy (Oscar-nominated for The Revenant but best known as Mad Max) plays James Keziah Delaney, long presumed dead when he returns home from Africa to 19th-century London to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire.
In their round-up of the best television of 2017 so far, The Guardian called Taboo “a heady stew of gothic revenge tale and colonial critique,” while The Los Angeles Times wrote, “The theme here of big business versus individual morality, and the idea that sometimes the most eccentric among us are not crazy – they just know more — make Taboo one of the more unique and thoughtful offerings of the new year.”
At the time of writing, Taboo has an 8.7/10 rating on IMDB and an 80% rating from critics and 93% audience score onRotten Tomatoes.
Hardy created the dark family mystery with his father Chips and Steven Knight – Hardy’s third collaboration with the Oscar nominee following the multi-award-winning film Locke and the BAFTA and Royal Television Society-winning TV seriesPeaky Blinders.
In addition to Hardy, Taboo’s all-star cast includes Game of Thrones’ Jonathan Pryce, Oona Chaplin, Jefferson Hall, and Lucian Msamati; Emmy-nominee Michael Kelly (House of Cards); BATFA-nominee Stephen Graham (This Is England ‘90); and BAFTA winners Tom Hollander (The Night Manager) and Jason Watkins (The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies).
Kristoffer Nyholm (The Killing) directed half the eight-part series, with Scott Free’s four-time Oscar-nominee Ridley Scott executive producing for FX and BBC One, who have already confirmed a second season.
Taboo is just one of a number of acclaimed series being added to Showmax in July; the Golden Globe-nominatedWestworld started streaming last week and the Golden Globe and BAFTA-nominated The Night Of starts on 17 July 2017.
SuperSport has acquired pay TV media rights in Sub-Saharan Africa for the next two Olympic Games and Winter Olympic Games.
This renewed partnership with the International Olympic Committee will take in the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 and the Olympic Games in 2024 in a city yet to be selected.
The announcement follows the completion of a competitive tender in the region.
SuperSport will also work with the IOC to support the development of the Olympic Channel, including the production of localised content and linear distribution across the region.
IOC President Thomas Bach said: “We are delighted to be working with DStv SuperSport to be able to bring Olympic fans more coverage than ever before. I have visited many countries across Africa and have witnessed first-hand the important role that sport and the Olympic Games play on the African continent. The IOC redistributes 90 per cent of the revenue derived from its commercial agreements to support the development of sport around the world, including in Africa.”
Said Gideon Khobane, chief executive of SuperSport: “As long-time partners of the International Olympic Committee, SuperSport is delighted to have secured these excellent Olympic rights. The Games produce consistently good ratings, no doubt because of the non-stop drama and action that make for compelling viewing. We look forward to putting together a multi-platform, multi-channel offering that will reflect the Olympics in their full glory.”
According to Cecil Sunkwa Mills, General Manager, MultiChoice Ghana “athletics fans in Ghana are assured uninterrupted coverage of all the action live from China and Tokyo in HD quality pictures only on DStv.” Coupled with this announcement is the massive reduction in prices for our HD Zapper decoder. He explained that as a customer centric organization, this reduction will be making great entertainment more accessible and affordable at the new decoder price of Ghs149.”

The Kumasi High Court has ruled in favour of MultiChoiceGhana, in a case leveled against Champion Broadcasting Limited in 2016.
In March 2016, MultiChoice Ghana operators of DStv and agents of SuperSport International, dragged Champion TV (the defendant) to court for infringing on its copyrights by unlawfully showing the English Premier League (EPL) without authority.
According to MultiChoice Ghana’s statement of claim, SuperSport was granted exclusive rights by the English Premier League, through a competitive bidding process to broadcast the football matches of the EPL for the 2015/2016 football season within Sub Saharan Africa including Ghana.
Champion TV’s continuous violation of their content rights was having an extremely adverse impact on their business, as their unlawful broadcasts were widely patronised for free in Ghana and beyond and widely advertised online.
On 26th July 2016, the court adopted the terms of settlement signed by the parties as the judgment of the court and ordered the parties to abide by the terms of the consent judgment.
Under clause 1 of the agreement, Champion TV undertook to cease and desist from further breach of MultiChoice Ghana’s channels or exclusive content rights by the broadcasting and or transmission of channels or exclusive content including the EPL matches.
However, the defendant proceeded to infringe on the consent judgment regarding exclusive content rights of the plaintiff by setting up a new television channel on its Champion TV decoder under the trade name, Top TV 2, which was used to broadcast the 2016/17 season of the EPL.
In a motion to enforce the terms of settlement, lawyers for MultiChoice Ghana, T. Forson & Co said, “the actions of the defendants were indicative of a firm resolve to infringe on the exclusive television content rights of the plaintiff to advance the defendant’s own commercial interest at the expense of the plaintiff.” In accordance with clause 4 of the terms of settlement, the court upon granting the application for enforcement of the terms of settlement ordered Champion TV to pay the prescribed punitive damages of US$40,000 (Ghc176,000) for the breach.
General Manager of MultiChoice Ghana, Cecil Sunkwa-Mills said the court ruling is a landmark victory for the fight against copyrights infringement in TV broadcasting in Ghana. He added “MultiChoice Ghana will not hesitate to use lawful means to protect content we have duly secured territorial broadcast rights for and urged media houses to properly secure broadcast rights for all content i.e. movies, music, concerts, documentaries, sports, etc.”
The Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor spectacle is officially underway.
Mayweather, boxing’s former pound-for-pound king, and McGregor, the UFC’s biggest superstar, launched their joint promotional tour on Tuesday inside Staples Center.
The four-stop tour, which promotes their Aug. 26 boxing match at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, ends in London on Friday. The pay-per-view event will air on Showtime and is expected to generate hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue.
McGregor, 28, addressed the throng of fans and media first, and he wasted no time in calling the tour exactly what it is — a spectacle for the ages.
“I’m absolutely honored to be here before you and give you this great spectacle. Somebody’s ‘0’ has got to go,” said McGregor, referencing Mayweather’s perfect boxing record.
Mayweather, 40, who is coming out of a retirement that began in 2015, briefly teased a physical altercation onstage, before saying, “We’ll save that for the payday.”
Mayweather’s manager, Leonard Ellerbe, told reporters the attendance for the news conference was 11,000. Tickets to the event were complimentary. The crowd was extremely pro-McGregor, and for his part, McGregor suggested the attendance was more like 20,000.
Both stars gave fans what they came for.
McGregor (19-3 in MMA) promised a quick knockout of the undefeated boxer and poked fun at Mayweather’s “TMT” sweatshirt. The Irishman graced the stage with a full suit, which had the words “f— you” embroidered into the pinstripes.
“He is f—ed,” McGregor said. “There’s no other way about it. His little legs, his little core, his little head — I’m gonna knock him out inside four rounds, mark my words.”
True to his “Money” nickname, Mayweather (49-0 in boxing) countered with insults of McGregor’s paychecks to this point in his career. McGregor owns the highest-reported disclosed purse in the sport of mixed martial arts: $3 million for his welterweight rematch against Nate Diaz last August. Mayweather’s guarantee in 2015 against Manny Pacquiao was $100 million.
“He look good for a seven-figure fighter, he look good for a seven-figure fighter,” Mayweather said. “I look good for a nine-figure fighter.”
McGregor made sure to remind the crowd he also is participating under a “restrictive” rule set, pointing out that boxing obviously won’t allow him to throw kicks, knees and elbows in the bout. Mayweather said he would “kick ass” in any arena, to which McGregor quickly replied, “Don’t be talking s—.”
Midway through Mayweather’s speech, officials decided to turn off McGregor’s microphone. He nevertheless continued to shout at Mayweather. The two eventually moved to the front of the stage and jawed at one another as they squared off, with UFC president Dana White standing in between.
Most experts are not predicting a close fight. Mayweather is considered the best boxer of his generation and is heavily favored in this fight; McGregor has never boxed professionally.
“I’m an old man. I’m not the fighter I was 20 years ago,” Mayweather said, going on to add that he isn’t even the same fighter he was 10, five or even two years ago. “But I got enough to beat you.”
White, Ellerbe, Showtime Sports’ Stephen Espinoza and MGM Resorts’ Richard Sturm all addressed the crowd, but Espinoza and Sturm were essentially booed off the stage, as the fans waited impatiently for the fighters to speak.
As McGregor joked, “I couldn’t hear anything those m—–f—–s said.”

The song recorded by Zylofon Media`s in house producer Linkin Beats was performed by Kumi Guitar alone, but the visuals have these legends endorsing the song in different manner, fashion and style.

He wrote this song to rekindle the love highlife music used to enjoy among Ghanaians as he likens himself to great and men with vision like Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Azumah Nelson, Marcus Garvey etc.
The video of the “Dream” song which was shot in the environs of Cape Coast, Elmina and Takoradi saw the highlife legends Nana Kwame Amadu, Charles Amoah, Pat Thomas and veteran music producer Zapp Mallet playing different roles in telling the story of Kumi Guitar and his penchant to make his highlife dream achievable. O.J. Simpson has been granted parole after nine years in prison for a Las Vegas robbery, a group of four Nevada commissioners decided today.
The imprisoned former NFL player could be released as early as Oct. 1.
Simpson, 70, delivered a rambling account of the case to the parole board earlier today, maintaining that he didn’t intend to steal but “wish this would have never happened.”
Simpson was at times jovial and combative with the members of the parole board, expressing his remorse and saying he’s humbled by his incarceration. Simpson was sentenced to prison following an arrest in 2007 during a botched robbery in Las Vegas, when he led a group of men into a hotel and casino to steal sports memorabilia at gunpoint. He contended the memorabilia and other personal items belonged to him.
Simpson said today, “I take full responsibility.”
Simpson’s account of the botched robbery
Simpson appeared remotely via video conference from Lovelock Correctional Facility in Nevada, where he’s serving time for kidnapping and armed robbery. Simpson began by explaining what he said led to crime, telling the board how he learned that some “some guys” were trying to “fence” what he said were his personal mementos in Las Vegas.
“As a perfect storm we all ended up in Las Vegas, you know? I was there for a wedding and [was told that] the property was there.”
He later continued, “I said, ‘Of course I would like to get the property.’ He told me the names of what he thought were the people in the room, and I realized these are friends of mine. You know? Actually guys who helped me move, helped me move and store some of this stuff.”
Simpson explained, “When I came into the [hotel] room I noticed spread out everywhere was my personal property.”
“The only thing I saw that was on display that wasn’t mine was some baseballs, and I made it clear to everybody those are not mine. All I want is my property. … I wasn’t there to steal from anybody.”
“I would never, ever pull a weapon,” he said.
Simpson added, “I haven’t made any excuses in the nine years I’ve been here and not trying to make an excuses now.”
When asked if he believed that the property was his, Simpson replied, “It’s been ruled legally by the state of California that it was my property and they’ve given it to me.”
Simpson: ‘I was always a good guy’
Simpson reassured the board he would be successful meeting the conditions of his parole before it was granted, saying, “I’m not a guy who lived a criminal life.”
Simpson said in his nine years behind bars, he’s been “a good guy.”
“I was always a good guy, but could have been a better Christian, and my commitment to change is to be a better Christian.”
He said he took an “alternative to violence” course in prison, calling it “the most important course anybody in this prison can take because it teaches you how to deal with conflict through conversation.”
“I had some problems with fidelity in my life, but I’ve always been a guy that pretty much got along with everybody,” he said.
Simpson said he’s missed 36 birthdays with his children while behind bars and missed their college graduations. Once released, he said he wants to spend as much time as he can with his family.
Simpson’s lawyer fumbles letter
During the hearing, Simpson’s attorney, Malcolm LaVergne, planned to read to the board a letter Simpson wrote to a Nevada assemblyman, but LaVergne had difficulty finding it and asked Simpson in front of the commissioners, “Did you take the letter? I can’t find it now.”
He then located the letter and read it to the board; in the letter, Simpson advocates for state funds to go toward education for inmates.
LaVergne then argued to the board that Simpson’s letter didn’t ask for special treatment or an early release, but instead showed how Simpson wants to help other inmates have “a better life.”
Simpson’s daughter: ‘We just want him to come home’
Simpson’s eldest daughter, Arnelle Simpson, also spoke at the hearing, appearing emotional as she told the board her father is her “best friend” and her “rock.”
“No one really knows how much we have been through, this ordeal in the last nine years,” she said, noting that “he didn’t make the right decision” on the day of the robbery.
“We just want him to come home,” she said. “This has been really, truly hard. … I know that he is remorseful.”
Robbery victim speaks: ‘O.J. never held a gun on me’
Bruce Fromong, one of the robbed memorabilia dealers and a victim in the case, spoke in Simpson’s favor at the hearing. He admitted the hotel room did contain items that belong to Simpson, but said that on the day of the robbery, “Simpson was misguided.”
Fromong continued, “He was led to believe that on that day, there were going to be thousands of pieces of his personal memorabilia, pictures of his wife from his first marriage, pictures of his kids. He was told there were going to be possibly his wife’s wedding ring, thousands of things. He was misled about what was going to be there that day.”
“O.J. never held a gun on me,” Fromong said. “O.J. is my friend, always has been, and I hope will remain my friend.”
Key moments in Simpson’s life
Simpson’s football career took him from the University of Southern California to the Buffalo Bills. Following his retirement, his celebrity status catapulted him to movie stardom and a cushy Brentwood, California, mansion.
More than 20 years ago, Simpson went on trial for the killing of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman. The two were found on June 12, 1994, stabbed to death at her Los Angeles home. On Oct. 3, 1995, at the end of a televised trial that captivated the nation, Simpson was acquitted of all criminal charges. He has always maintained his innocence.
A civil jury later ordered Simpson to pay $33.5 million in damages after finding him liable for wrongful death in the double murder.
For the 2007 robbery, Simpson was charged with a number of felony counts, including kidnapping and armed robbery. He was found guilty and sentenced to up to 33 years in prison.
His bid for a new trial in the case was rejected in 2013, but he was granted parole that same year on some of the charges, based on good behavior. He was not released from prison at that time, since his prison sentences were set to run consecutively. Simpson had to wait until this year to appear again before the parole board.
Simpson’s friend, Tom Scotto, told ABC News earlier this year that Simpson is “hopeful.” Scotto said if Simpson is freed, he would want “to just keep a low profile, be with his kids, be with his family, play golf.”
Ron Goldman’s family speaks ahead of parole hearing
Hours before the parole hearing, Ron Goldman’s father, Fred Goldman, told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos on “Good Morning America,” “What’s troubling to me is not only him, but the whole system gives second chances to violent felons or, for that matter, anyone in jail. … Ron doesn’t get a second chance.
“Ron never gets to spend his life doing what he wanted to do,” Fred Goldman continued. “We’ll never get to share his life, and the killer will walk free and get to do whatever he wants.”
Fred Goldman said the parole board should take into account that Simpson was found liable for the killings in the 1997 civil trial.
“I think his whole history of violence, ignoring the law, no respect for the law, no remorse for virtually anything he’s ever done is an indication of who he is as a person,” Fred Goldman said. “I don’t think there’s any reason to think that he’s going to be a decent human being in society. I think he’s proved otherwise.”
Added Ron Goldman’s sister, Kim Goldman, “We lived our life with [Simpson] walking the streets and sharing the same roads that we did.”
“With him being locked up in Lovelock, it’s been a chance for us to kind of reclaim some control over our life and have some glimpse of sanity,” she said. “I’m preparing myself for that to be changing come October.”
