Some Churches in Ghana turn away secular artists instead of ministering to them – eShun
Ghanaian musician eShun blasts some Ghanaian churches, stating that some do not create the right atmosphere for secular artists to attend. She goes on to say that many of them are deemed sinners and judged harshly, suggesting that many artistes are turned away as soon as they enter the church doors.
The Akyia hitmaker during an interview also claimed that there are many artistes with big talents who could be a blessing to the Kingdom and society at large, yet the prejudicial stance of the church towards them makes them feel unwelcome within their four walls. The right attitude of the church in her opinion is to draw such artists in, minister to them in love and this could bring about any necessary changes to their lives. Instead, however, the church condemns them and turns them away from coming to their ministries.
“Let’s even say the artistes perform songs that have what we call, “bad lyrics”, is this not the chance for the church to draw closer and correct him or her? But that is the time that when you get to the church gate, one brother or sister will look at you like you just descended from hell, like oh look, here comes the sinner. You won’t want to go there again”, the Someone Loves Me hitmaker narrated.
eShun did clarify that she had not experienced such encounters with her church, Light of the World Chapel, but has with other churches. Many of her colleagues in the music industry have also experienced this less than welcoming atmosphere from some churches.
eShun stated, “The church is built on love, yes? Is this love only for a set group of people, or is it that people just don’t know what love is?”
This hot topic was discussed on the mid-morning drive show with Sokoo Hemaa on Rainbow Radio when eShun was asked whether artists were treated the same as everybody else in the church.
The songstress has just released the video for her new song, “Clap for Yourself”. You can check it out here. https://youtu.be/gwB-bthE7OA

R. Kelly denies séxual abuse allegations in explosive interview
In an exclusive interview airing Wednesday, singer R. Kelly told “CBS This Morning” co-host Gayle King that the séxual abuse allegations against him are lies. The charges involve four women, three of whom were underage at the time of the alleged events.
King also sat down with two young women who currently live with the singer, Azriel Clary and Joycelyn Savage, in an interview that will air Friday, March 8 on “CBS This Morning.” Savage’s parents have accused R. Kelly of kidnapping their daughter. She said she’s living with the singer on her own free will.
R. Kelly also faces accusations of maintaining a séx cult. Friends and family members believe Clary and Savage are a part of it.
Gayle King: They are still talking about you with underage girls. Do you still sit here and say you have never been with underage girls. Can you really say that?
R. Kelly: I sit here and say this: I had two cases back then that I said in the beginning of the interview that I would not talk about because of my ongoing case now.
Gayle King: Ok.
R. Kelly: Fair enough, but I will tell you this: people are going back to my past, OK? That’s exactly what they’re doing. They’re going back to the past, and they trying to add all of this stuff now to that. To make all of this stuff that’s going on now feels real to people.
Gayle King: But the past is relevant with you with underage girls?
R. Kelly: Absolutely, no it’s not. Because for one, I beat my case. When you beat something, you beat it.
Gayle King: You were acquitted.
R. Kelly: You can’t double-jeopardy me like that. You can’t. It’s not fair. It’s not fair to nobody. When you beat your case, you beat your case.
Gayle King: But I’m not talking about the one case in which you were acquitted. I’m talking about the other cases where women have come forward and said, “R. Kelly had séx with me when I was under the age of 18. R. Kelly was abusive to me emotionally and physically and verbally. R. Kelly took me in a black room where unspeakable things happened.” This is what they’re saying about you.
R. Kelly: Not true.
Gayle King: These aren’t old rumors.
R. Kelly: Not true. Whether they’re old rumors, new rumors, future rumors, not true.
Gayle King: Correct me if I’m wrong that you’ve never held anybody against their will?
R. Kelly: I don’t need to. Why would I? How stupid would it be for R. Kelly, with all I’ve been through in my way, way past, to hold somebody, let alone 4, 5, 6, 50, you said – how stupid would I be to do that?
Gayle King: I didn’t say you were holding –
R. Kelly: That’s stupid, guys! Is this camera on me?
Gayle King: Yes, it’s on.
R. Kelly: That’s stupid! Use your common sense. Forget the blogs, forget how you feel about me. Hate me if you want to, love me if you want. But just use your common sense. How stupid would it be for me, with my crazy past and what I’ve been through – oh right now I just think I need to be a monster and hold girls against their will, chain them up in my basement, and don’t let them eat, don’t let them out, unless they need some shoes down the street from their uncle!
Gayle King: Robert –
R. Kelly: Stop it. You don’t quit playing. Quit playing. I didn’t do this stuff! This is not me! I’m fighting for my f***ing life!

MUSIGA launches anti-corruption campaign
The chairperson of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) Ms. Josephine Nkrumah has called on all Ghanaians to join the fight against corruption to ensure meaningful national development. Ms. Nkrumah recalled the role of music in various social campaigns in the past and described music and the arts as veritable tools for attitudinal change.
She was speaking at the launching of an anti-corruption campaign by Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA). The NCCE chairperson also applauded the efforts of the Union in joining the anti-corruption fight as enshrined in the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACAP).
In her remarks, the chairperson for the occasion and Executive Director of Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), Linda Ofori-Kwafo noted that “the framers of the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACAP) have rightly indicated the role the Musicians Union of Ghana can play in this fight against corruption. According to NACAP, MUSIGA can use music and drama to create awareness about what corruption entails and its various forms for members of the public to engage them in the fight.”
The Programmes Director of STAR-Ghana explained referred to advocacy campaigns in the past that had used music effectively and expressed the hope that MUSIGA’s contribution will augment efforts being made in the anti-corruption fight.
The MUSIGA President, Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour expressed his appreciation to STAR-Ghana for the support offered the Union to contribute to this fight against corruption. He called on creative arts practitioners to become evangelists of the anti-corruption fight. On his part, VGMA Artiste of the Year EL, indicated that his involvement in the campaign is due to the fact that corruption affects all and sundry regardless of one’s estate in society.
The Ghana Actors Guild (GAG) President, Sam Fiscian expressed the commitment of GAG to the success of the anti-corruption campaign.
The MUSIGA anti-corruption campaign involves the release of an All Star song and video, a drama video by Ghana Actors Guild (GAG) and a walk in Accra and Kumasi among other activities. A stakeholders’ forum was also held after the launch of the campaign.
The occasion was also used to launch GMW 2019 which is under the theme, “The Role of Music in the Implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACAP).” Activities lined up for GMW 2019 include an anti-corruption walk in Kumasi and Accra, Presidential Grand Ball and Gospel Concert among others.
African giants chase quarterfinal berths: 8-10 March, CAF Club Competition preview
Some of Africa’s heavyweight clubs will be chasing berths in the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, as the competitions’ group phases have Matchday 5 fixtures this weekend. For the best action from African club competition football DStv and GOtv got you covered.
Sunday features eight Matchday 5 clashes in the Confederation Cup and derbies are very much a running theme. An all-Moroccan battle between Raja Casablanca and Hassania Agadir could be key in deciding who joins likely Group A winners RS Berkane (who should seal a quarterfinal berth by beating AS Otoho at home).
In Group B, Etoile du Sahel and CS Sfaxien will have a Tunisian derby in which top spot is up for grabs, while West African sides Salitas (Burkina Faso) and Enugu Rangers (Nigeria) will have a regional clash in Ouagadougou.
Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko will fancy their chances of leapfrogging to the top of the standings with a home win over current leaders Al Hilal. The Porcupine Warrior had an impressive home 3:0 win last Sunday against Nkana FC. With another home game in the offing Kotoko is charged to keep a clean slate at home once again. The Zambian derby between Nkana and Zesco United in Kitwe is the second game to keep a close eye on in this still open group.
Finally, Group D sees Zamalek with the chance to avenge their shock defeat in Kenya on Matchday 1 when they host Gor Mahia in Alexandria, while Angola’s Petro Atletico will be looking to revive their quarterfinal hopes with a win at home to league leaders NA Hussein Dey of Algeria.
The Champions League takes centre stage on Friday and Saturday, with the opening games seeing CS Constantine needing only to avoid defeat at home to Club African to secure progression from Group C, while TP Mazembe can also end the hopes of Ismaily (who have been ejected and re-instated in the premier competition) by avoiding defeat in an early evening game in Alexandria.
Friday’s night games come from Group B, with a Southern African derby between Orlando Pirates and already-eliminated FC Platinum of Zimbabwe in Soweto, while title holders Esperance de Tunis could potentially seal a quarterfinal place with a win at home to Horoya in Rades.
Saturday is a key time in Group A, with co-leaders Wydad Casablanca and Mamelodi Sundowns facing testing matches away to ASEC Mimosas in Abidjan and at home to Nigeria’s Lobi Stars. South Africa’s Sundowns will be itching for revenge against Stars after suffering a 2-1 defeat in Enugu back in January.
Group D sees just three points covering the four teams, with bottom-of-the-log AS Vita hoping to bring themselves right back into the mix by defeating leaders Al Ahly in Kinshasa, while JS Saoura host Tanzania’s Simba SC in Bechar and will be looking to avenge a Matchday 1 3-0 loss in Dar es Salaam.

Arsenal v Man United the biggest game of the weekend
Across the Premier League, La Liga and Serie A, the game to watch this weekend is definitely Arsenal v Manchester United on Sunday following the massive win in Paris over PSG in the UEFA Champions League. DStv and GOtv will be your home for the best action from the top flights of England, Italy and Spain.
The meeting of the Gunners and the Red Devils has long been regarded as one of the great rivalries in the English game, and while neither club is at the peak of their powers, their clash at the Emirates Stadium is set to have huge ramifications for their top-four ambitions.
United’s fantastic run of domestic form under caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continued this past weekend when they beat Southampton 3-2 in a thriller at Old Trafford, lifting them into fourth place at the expense of Arsenal, who put up a strong showing in holding North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 at Wembley.
One of Solskjaer’s best wins in his tenure thus far came at the Emirates earlier this year when his side defeated Arsenal 3-1 in an FA Cup clash. Repeating the feat will be no easy task, especially with the Red Devils’ spate of injuries, but they will fancy their chances of overrunning the Gunners again.
In Italy, the title race is all but over after Juventus defeated Napoli this past weekend, leaving the focus on the battle for the UEFA Champions League berths. The interest for DStv and GOtv viewers will fall on the results for Milan, Inter and the capital duo of Lazio and Roma (with the former claiming an emphatic 3-0 win over the latter in their derby clash this past weekend).
Milan are to third on the log and will fancy their chances of remaining in the position when they play away to bottom-of-the-log Chievo at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi in Verona on Saturday night. Their rivals Inter have dropped to fourth after a surprise loss to Cagliari and will need to rediscover winning form when they host SPAL on Sunday at the San Siro.
Fifth-placed Roma have allowed Lazio (who also hold a game in hand) to close to within three points in sixth and the Giallorossi cannot afford anything other than a win when they host Empoli at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night, while Lazio face a tough trip to Florence to face Fiorentina in a concurrent clash at Stadio Artemio Franchi.
In Spain, Barcelona took a major step toward successfully defending their championship last weekend when they edged Real Madrid 1-0 at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. They face a considerably easier task (on paper at least) when they host Rayo Vallecano on Saturday, but Ernesto Valverde’s team have often taken the foot off the pedal in so-called ‘easy’ games this season.
Atletico Madrid will hope the relegation-threatened Rayo can spring a surprise at the Camp Nou, with that match following their own at home to Leganes earlier in the day. The Rojiblancos are seven points off Barcelona heading into the weekend, but it will only take one swing of three points to revive real interest in the title chase.

Radio stations ban Michael Jackson’s music after “Leaving Neverland” documentary
King of Pop‘s hits around the world after the broadcast earlier this week. In the two-part documentary, two men — James Safechuck and choreographer Wade Robson — allege Jackson molested them when they were children.
The film was followed up by interviews with the accusers conducted by Oprah Winfrey. The iconic talk show host reportedly said the documentary, directed by Dan Reed, “allows us to see this societal corruption.”
In the wake of the allegations, three Montreal radio stations pulled Jackson’s music on Monday (March 4). Christine Dicaire, a spokesperson for the station’s parent company, Cogeco Media, said the decision was made out of demand from listeners. “We are attentive to listeners’ comments, and last night’s documentary created reactions,” she told local news.
Two popular radio stations in New Zealand also pulled the plug on Jackson’s records on Wednesday (March 6). According to Leon Wratt, the content director of New Zealand’s MediaWorks, the decision was made at the discretion of listeners. “We aren’t deciding whether Michael Jackson is guilty of pedophilia or not,” Wratt told the New York Times. “We’re just merely trying to make sure that our radio stations are going to play the music that people want to hear.”
On Feb. 22, Jackson’s estate filed a $100 million lawsuit against HBO claiming it violated a contract made with the singer before his death in 2009. The network reportedly signed a non-disparagement agreement in 1992 which states “HBO shall not make any disparaging remarks concerning [Jackson] or any of his representatives, agents, or business practices or do any act that may harm or disparage or cause to lower in esteem the reputation or public image of [Jackson].” The deal was made in exchange for permission to air a special of his “Michael Jackson Live in Concert in Bucharest: The Dangerous Tour.”
Jackson’s estate claims HBO violated the contract by airing the disturbing claims made by Jackson’s accusers in the documentary. The Estate also pointed out that Jackson’s accusers both filed previous lawsuits which were dismissed in court and called into question their credibility.
Jackson’s family have also spoken out and denied the allegations made about their beloved brother and uncle.

Ethiopian Airlines: ‘No survivors’ on crashed Boeing 737
All passengers on board an Ethiopian Airlines jet that crashed shortly after take-off on Sunday have died, the airline says.
It said 149 passengers and eight crew members were believed to be on flight ET302 from Addis Ababa to Nairobi in Kenya.
The airline added that there were 33 different nationalities on board.
The crash happened at 08.44 local time, six minutes after the flight took-off from the Ethiopian capital.
It is not yet clear what caused the accident.
First word of the crash came when Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed his “deepest condolences” on Twitter.
In an earlier statement, the airline said that search and rescue operations were under way near the crash site around the town of Bishoftu, which is 60km (37 miles) south-east of the capital.
“Ethiopian Airlines staff will be sent to the accident scene and will do everything possible to assist the emergency services,” the statement added.
Boeing, the company that built the aeroplane, said in a tweet that it was “closely monitoring the situation”.
Its 737 Max-8 aircraft is relatively new to the skies, having been launched in 2016. It was added to the Ethiopian Airlines fleet in July last year.
Another plane of the same model was involved in a crash five months ago, when a Lion Air flight crashed into the sea near Indonesia with nearly 190 people on board.
What do we know about the airline’s safety record?
Ethiopian Airlines flies to many destinations in Africa, making it a popular carrier in a continent where many airlines fly only from their home country to destinations outside Africa.
It has a good reputation for safety, although in 2010 one of the company’s aeroplanes crashedin the Mediterranean Sea shortly after leaving Beirut.
The incident killed 90 people on board.
The airline’s highest fatalities prior to this came in a November 1996 crash during a hijacking on a flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi.
One of the aeroplane’s engines stopped when the fuel ran out and although pilots attempted an emergency water landing, they hit a coral reef in the Indian Ocean and 123 of the 175 people on board were killed.
“There are too many young Nigerian Women engaging in prostitution in Ghana”
Ghanaian Musician eShun has observed that the number of young Nigerian girls who are engaging in commercial sex activities in Ghana is alarming. The Akyia Hitmaker made the statement on her Facebook page update on International Women’s Day.
During a telephone interview this Friday 8 March 2018 on International Women’s Day, the UNHCR High-Level Supporter called on relevant authorities to find decent jobs for the girls who seem to be mostly trafficked to Ghana to engage in such illegal activities.
eShun who expressed outrage on the matter when asked to elaborate on her Women’s Day message stated that there is an increasing number of Nigerian female citizens engaging in illicit activities in large parts of Ghana. She elaborated, “You would see these ladies standing in some areas where prostitutes stand to engage in their activities. I have seen them in areas such as Wejia, Tema, Cantonment Roundabout, East Legon, Takoradi Vienna City, Kumasi Vienna City, Spintex Ecobank Area, etc. After speaking to many of the ladies, I discovered that several of them are Nigerians. The sad part of this is that most of them are very young girls between the ages of 15 and 16, maybe 17 years old”.
eShun indicated that the activities of these young girls is denting the image of both Nigeria and Ghana, “I have learned a lot from the Nigerian music industry, been there countless times and Nigeria is and will always be a part of not just me but many Ghanaians. It is a beautiful country so it hurts to see these girls, especially at such a young age being involved in such activities.”
“Anytime I see them I sometimes approach and talk to them, realizing how young some of them are, I imagine them being in school and doing something better with themselves. Even if it means going from door to door to do laundry, being a domestic worker to earn an income and start something on their own, perhaps even learn a trade to equip themselves for the future. This would be much better than engaging in commercial sex activities. I have younger sisters and seeing these young ladies is heartbreaking”, the Someone Loves Me Hitmaker lamented during the telephone interview.
eShun said it was high time the Nigerian community in Ghana supported the Nigerian High Commissioner and the Ghanaian Government to work at nipping such negative activities in the bud because indeed this puts both Nigeria and Ghana in a bad light.
The Highlife star revealed during our conversation seeing the police turning a blind eye to the situation, claiming, “Sometimes you see the policemen around but the ladies continue their solicitation as though they were not around. I feel if the police were doing their job well, we as a nation may be able to curb this problem. I once asked a woman who sells food near one of the solicitation hotspots about the situation and she said even the police patronize their services! I can’t fathom why girls of that age who should be in school studying are on the streets practicing prostitution?” eShun wondered.
eShun made these comments Friday 8 March 2018 on International Women’s Day where she concluded that more can be done within the nation and by our women, in particular, to support our more vulnerable ones in society.

Brenda Omawumi writes : Climate smart investment in cities
An investment that is considered socially responsible (SRI) because of the nature of the business the company conducts. Common themes for socially responsible investments include avoiding investment in companies that produce or sell addictive substances (like alcohol, gambling and tobacco) and seeking out companies engaged in social justice, environmental sustainability and alternative energy/clean technology efforts.
This practice is growing into a widely followed practice, as there are dozens of new funds and pooled investment vehicles available for retail investors. Mobilizing institutional investors for SRI provides those who are interested in investing in social impact projects with a vehicle to contribute positively to communities as well as providing financial gain for investors. Private companies are however beginning to see it as good for their bottom line to address societal needs.
Yet from environmental concerns to serving the deprived, there is a wide range of unaddressed requirements. According to 91 scientists convened by the United Nations recently, the world is now moving faster towards a climate change disaster. Climate change will aggravate the water scarcity and acute groundwater depletion, which is present in most developing countries across Africa.
The One Planet Summit, launched by French president Emmanuel Macron in December 2017, will be held in Africa for the first time, underlining planetary correlation in a way previous summits – held in Paris and New York – arguably could not. In the run-up to the Summit, Monica Juma, cabinet secretary in Kenya’s ministry of foreign affairs, said, “We’ve begun to frame Nairobi as the world global environmental capital.”
She indicated that Kenya was determined to upscale discussions on the sustainable use of natural resources in line with United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
The environment is top of the agenda but most importantly, the effect of climate change on Africa is of growing concern due to the growing wealth inequality the continent faces which has the potential to create complex social issues. The demand for a more robust business infrastructure has led to the change in how investors look at business over the past few years.
A broad range of investors have started questioning the sustainability of returns they get. It not only about profits anymore but rather what effect the actions of businesses have on societies at large.
For example, it is considered cool by many investors now to stay away from companies that sell cigarettes and other socially harmful products. This has led to the impetus of Social Businesses. Noble Laureate Mohamed Yunus used another approach. He successfully created a model for running “Social Businesses”.
Social businesses refer to organisations that are set-up for resolving social problems. Investors create a social business for answering a social issue and not for the investment returns the business would generate. Investors get to recoup their capital back, but they are not entitled to anything beyond this.
From focusing on pure returns, investment thinking has been shifting to a new growth area: socially responsible investing. As of 2016, SRI assets grew to about $ 23 trillion about 25 percent higher than 2014.

Ghanaian, Chinese, French, Portuguese, Egyptian and West African Navies at The International Maritime Defense Exhibition and Conference (IMDEC) on 24th & 25th of July in Accra
Piracy, illegal fishing, and armed robberies are some of the major issues threatening the Gulf of Guinea region. These threats not only disrupt regional stability but also hinder economic development. It is essential that international and intergovernmental players continue to build upon joint capabilities to alter this progression. The International Maritime Defense Exhibition and Conference occurring on 24-25 July 2019 at the Kempinski Gold Coast in Accra, Ghana, will see a gathering of more than 15 chiefs of naval staff from around Africa and Internationally, in addition to maritime stakeholders from around the globe discussing stabilizing economic advancement and security on the crucial Gulf of Guinea. Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and The Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral Seth Amoama will inaugurate the event.
Hosted as part of the month-long 60th Anniversary celebrations, IMDEC will showcase exclusive milestones of Ghana Navy’s achievements as well as forecast its future accomplishments within the maritime sector under the theme “Celebrating 60 years under Naval Excellence: Securing the Maritime Domain for National Development” IMDEC is an international event and exhibition focusing on securing the increasingly volatile maritime and coastal waters of West Africa namely Gulf of Guinea, where 20 captains, commodores, rear admirals, vice admirals, & admirals from South Africa, all navies on gulf of Genia, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Kenya, China, France, & Portugal will discuss multiple crucial topics like overcoming illegal oil-bunkering, piracy, unregulated and unreported fishing, smuggling, human and drug trafficking, illegal bunkering and crude oil theft at the region’s waters, empowering interagency cooperation to jointly interdict threats around the Gulf of Guinea, governance and regulatory aspects, including compliance with ISPS codes, stabilizing economic growth at the region’s coasts and seas.
On Tuesday, 23 July 2019 an exclusive site visit to Sekondi Naval Base where delegates will be airlifted from Accra to Sekondi port by the Ghana Air Force for an exclusive site visit of the Takoradi Naval Base will take place. The tour will consist of an in-depth walk through of the naval dockyard and base as well as a private sea tour to further display the advanced capabilities of Ghana’s Naval fleet.
IMDEC will be attended by Chief of Defense Staff, Ghana Armed Forces Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa, Rear Admiral Peter Kofi Faidoo (Ghana), Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete-Ekwe Ibas (Nigeria), Naval Captain Godwin Livinus Bessing (Ghana), Michael Achagwe Luguje (GPHA Ghana), Hadiza Bala Usman (Nigeria Ports Authority) and many more high-level speakers.
The latest report released by Ocean Beyond Piracy (OBP) showed that the economic cost of piracy to West Africa has been on the increase in the last three years, reaching over $818.1 million in 2017, while about $213.7 million was spent to contract maritime security personnel protecting vessels in the region. It revealed that regional spending on law enforcement and naval patrols increased by $13.2 million in the year. The report also showed that 1,726 seafarers were affected last year, while 100 crewmembers were taken hostage.
Rear Admiral Seth Amoama, Chief of the Naval Staff, Ghana Navy said: “The Ghana Navy celebrates the 60th Anniversary this year under the theme Celebrating 60 years of Naval Excellence: Securing the Maritime Domain for National Development. As part of activities to commemorate the occasion, the Ghana Navy in partnership with Great Minds Events Management LLC, will host the International Maritime Defense Exhibition and Conference (IMDEC) at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel, Accra from 24- 25 July 2019. I look forward to welcoming you to Accra.
The Conference aims to create a platform for stakeholders, experts and solution providers in the maritime industry to converge to address the critical issues facing the Gulf of Guinea. It will also focus on strengthening interagency collaboration such as curbing regional security threats and interagency information sharing as well as systems integration. The exhibitions will showcase state of the art technologies as well as solutions tailored towards the needs of our maritime domain. “
The Vice-President of Ghana announced government’s intentions to implement the First Port Duty Rule at Ghana’s ports in order to tackle smuggling arising from diverted transit goods supposedly meant for landlocked countries such as Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger. He explained that under the First Port Duty Rule, customs officials of the landlocked nations will be stationed at Ghana’s ports, and the importer will be directed to the appropriate country desk to pay if indeed it is a transit good.
Unsafe, un-monitored anchorage areas vulnerable to threats at sea, Ghana ports and docks do not have enough capacity to load all cargo ships, nor the manpower to enforce Maritime Exclusion Zones. To address this, the Ghanaian Navy is procuring 4 patrol vessels ($7 mill.) and has recently received several patrol boats in the last few months. Ghana is creating a national maritime security framework endorsed by the Ghana Maritime Authority. However, $1.5 billion is being spent to enhance annual handling capacity at Tema port in Ghana.

DStv to air controversial Leaving Neverland documentary on M-Net City
The much debated two-part documentary Leaving Neverland is a global hot topic at the moment, and DStv customers across Ghana don’t have to wait long to see why this Channel 4 and HBO co-production has taken the world by storm. Just a few weeks after its controversial premiere in the US at the recent Sundance Film Festival, Leaving Neverland will be screened across two days on M-Net City, DStv channel 115 this weekend.
Part one will be aired on M-Net City on Saturday, 30 March at 7:40pm, while part 2 will follow on Sunday, 31 March at 7:40pm. To accommodate these screenings, M-Net City will reschedule The Blacklist S5 on Saturday and Stan Lee’s Lucky Man S3 on Sunday.
Fan of these shows can catch the next episodes as follows:
• The Blacklist S5 episodes 17 & 18 on Saturday 6 April
• Stan Lee’s Lucky Man S3 episodes 7 & 8 on Sunday 7 April
Directed and produced by five-time BAFTA-winner Dan Reed, the four-hour long Leaving Neverland unpacks the story of two individuals: James Safechuck and Wade Robson, now-adult men in their 30s, who befriended Jackson at the ages of ten and seven respectively. Through gut-wrenching interviews with Safechuck and Robson, as well as their mothers, wives and siblings, Leaving Neverland crafts a portrait of sustained abuse, and explores the complicated feelings that led both men to confront their experiences after both had a young son of their own. Playing out against the backdrop of our collective experience, the film documents the value of breaking silence, even when it implicates a powerful and revered figure.
“Bringing Leaving Neverland to African screens is testament to the fact that DStv brings the most compelling content to the continent as quickly as possible,” says MultiChoice Ghana MD Cecil Sunkwa Mills. “Please note, however, that documentary is not suitable for younger viewers as it contains strong language, discussions of self-harm and graphic descriptions of child sexual abuse.”
Among the line-up of channels which have already acquired the documentary are Network Ten Australia, DR Denmark, VPRO Netherlands, SVT Sweden, ProSieben Germany, Channel One Russia, VRT Belgium, NRK Norway, TVNZ New Zealand, Discovery Italy, DBS Israel, Amedia Russia, YLE Finland, Fox Asia, Front Row Middle East, RUV Iceland, M6 France, HBO Latin America, HBO Portugal and Movistar + in Spain and HBO CEE. Additionally, there are a considerable number of deals which are currently in the final stages of negotiation.
Leaving Neverland airs on M-Net City channel 115 on DStv with part one on Saturday, 30 March at 7:40, and part two on Sunday, 31 March at 7:40. Please note that the EPG may take a while to reflect the aforementioned updates. Viewers on the move can also watch the documentary on DStv Now.
Critical reception of the contentious documentary includes:
“Hard to watch, tougher to ignore, impossible to forget…a portrait of bravery.” – Rolling Stone
“Overwhelmingly powerful and convincing.” – Variety
“Among Leaving Neverland’s remarkable achievements is Reed’s empathetic skill at providing the proper context.” – Screen Daily

How to watch Live Soccer Games on DStv Now
The Premier League clash between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur will take centre stage amongst the major European games scheduled for this coming weekend. DStv your home for the best top-flight football from England, Spain and Italy will have every inch of turf covered with over 25 live matches streaming live on DStv Now and your television.
Liverpool went to the top of the log before the international break when they won a tough clash away to Fulham. The result arrived on the same weekend as the FA Cup quarterfinals, meaning previous leaders Manchester City were not in Premier League action and now have a game in hand on their rivals.
City will want to turn the screw on the Reds with a win away to Fulham on Saturday afternoon in the opening game of the round, more than 24 hours before Jurgen Klopp’s side walk out the tunnel at Anfield to face Spurs.
In Spain’s La Liga, the ‘Derbi Barceloni’ between Barcelona and Espanyol is the key match. Barca come into the game on Saturday afternoon fresh from a 4-1 win away to Real Betis in which Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick to further extend his lead at the top of the scoring charts – the Argentine master has netted 29 goals this season, 11 more than his nearest chaser (which happens to be teammate Luis Suarez).
The result took their lead at the top of the log to a full 10 points and, with a UEFA Champions League quarterfinal against Manchester United looming early next month, manager Ernesto Valverde could perhaps look at resting key men in this clash.
Over in Italy’s Serie A, Roma hosting Napoli is the headline battle. The former, in their second game under new manager Claudio Ranieri, slumped to a 2-1 loss away to SPAL which put a major dent in their hopes of finishing in the top four.
Yet getting the better of Napoli, who have won on their last two trips to the Stadio Olimpico, will be no straightforward task for the Giallorossi. The Neapolitans claimed a 4-2 win over Udinese before the international break and have lost just once (to runaway leaders Juventus) in their last 10 league matches.
