All over Africa, and indeed all over the world, the young rich are flaunting their fabulous life on social media, particularly on Instagram.

The rich kids of Instagram phenomenon got so global that in 2016, Channel 4 Television launched a new reality TV show with the same title. They are not exactly kids; some are from wealthy families who like to share their fabulous life with the world, while others simply have money that they want to throw it in our faces.

They drive the most expensive cars, go on exotic holidays and wear expensive trendy stuff…see how these rich kids live their lives all on Instagram!

Chris Koney writes: Light, Bright & The Mountain In Full Prospect – The Stunning Sight Of Cape Town

After three amazing nights in the Free State, together with the other members of the 2017 SA Specialist experience, we made a three hour road trip to Bloemfontein to catch a flight to the “Mother City”, a more commonly used nickname for Cape Town by locals.

Cape Town, which happens to be the oldest town in South Africa, is a port city that is situated on the country’s southwest coast and positioned on a peninsula just beneath the magnificent, imposing and popular Table Mountain.

After an hour and forty minute flight, we arrived in Cape Town and were welcomed in a grand but an unusual manner. Over thirty of the world’s most iconic bike brand, Harley Davidson together with professional riders lined up just outside of the arrival area of the airport waiting for us to hit town.

Cape Town has its own vibe – from the weather, mood to the people. Arriving from Clarens, it was in fact very obvious and effortless to try and identify the differences. Cape Town has a lot to offer tourists on any day and even for people who have preciously visited the “Mother City”, it is always a totally new experience when they return to the city.

From the airport, we rode through the principal streets of Cape Town for almost an hour before settling at the Victoria & Alfred (V&A) Waterfront for a series of fun activities. From a good spot, you could see slowly rotating cable cars climb to the mountain’s flat top, a sweeping views of the city, the busy harbor and boats. After all the fun on the day, we checked into the five-star Westin Grand hotel, next to the Cape Town Conventional Centre.

Designed by Adrian van der Vyver, the V&A Waterfront is a complex situated on the Atlantic shore, Table Bay Harbour. The 123 hectares (300 acres) area has been developed for mixed-use, with both residential and commercial real estate. The complex houses over 450 retail outlets, including fashion, homeware and curios, to jewellery, leather goods and audio-visual equipment. The V&A Waterfront still functions as a working harbour and fishing boats bring in fresh fish, and larger container ships are towed in by tugboats.

One of the major attractions at the V&A Waterfront is the Two Oceans Aquarium. There are over 3,000 new fishy friends who are swimming to meet your acquaintance such as, sharks, fishes, turtles and penguins. The aquarium raises environmental awareness through high-quality exhibits, conservation and education programs. The more fearless you are, you can attempt to do a shark dive in the I & J Predator Exhibit.
The Wheel of Excellence is another spectacle at the complex. You can get into the skies in one of the 36 fully-enclosed cabins on this 50m high, giant observation wheel (for R70/p). The 20 minute journey affords panoramic views of Cape Town, Paarl, Table Mountain and Robben Island. Feeling a bit flash, you can opt for a VIP cabin, complete with canapés and champagne for a true VIP treatment.

Cape Town caters for the nature lovers as much as the culture enthusiast and the hop-on hop-off bus tour is a great start. The tour grants you flexibility to explore the city according to your own itinerary for an inspiring introductory scene of Cape Town. At the foot of the Table Mountain sits Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, one of the nine national botanical gardens covering five of the South Africa’s six different biomes.

History buffs can head to the Castle of Good Hope to discover the oldest surviving colonial building in South Africa which was constructed in 1666 as a maritime replenishment stadium. Currently, the star shaped structure houses the Castle Military Museum and the Iziko Museum of Cape Town.

Quad Biking also happens in Cape Town and I experienced the mountain trails. The quad bike trails take you through some of the rarest plants on earth and the off road quad tours are perfectly designed for those with a sense of adventure and an appreciation for nature. A qualified field guide leads the quad biking tour group, offering interesting insights as you enjoy your off road quad bike trail through the awesome scenery of this Western Cape region.

A visit to Cape Town is not complete without visiting a winery to have a wine tasting experience.    Cape Town is a favourite destination for wine connoisseurs from around the world with some of the best and oldest wine farms in the region can be found right in the city’s back yard. Cape Town is a world renowned wine region, recognized internationally for its fine wines. While the Cape’s famed winelands have spread to Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek and beyond, it all began in Constantia, quite literally Cape Town’s back yard. With a wine-making tradition that spans more than 300 years, the Constantia Valley is the oldest wine-producing region in the Southern Hemisphere, its picturesque farms still produces world class and award-winning wines.

Our adventure came to an end at the Cool Runnings Toboggan Family Park. Being the only toboggan track in Africa, Cool Runnings comes with its sunny skies and warm temperatures. The toboggans definitely don’t run on the traditional snow and ice, Instead, Cool Runnings toboggans run on a stainless steel track, each seating one or two people. Your ride starts with a pull up a steep grassy slope by a hook at the bottom of your toboggan.

From there, your sled is released and you will go down the track with seventeen corners, S-bends and a tunnel. You can control your own speed with a break, but adrenaline junkies can easily reach up to a whopping 40km an hour. The sled will automatically slow down as it comes into the docking station, so you have nothing to worry about except having a good time.

FULL SPEECH OF GENDER MINISTER @ #IAMGACA

It gives me great pleasure to be part of the launch of this historic movement to end child abuse in Ghana. This campaign seeks to drive and shift the attention of Ghanaians to the best child raising practices. I believe that this is the best time to begin this campaign to ensure that children in Ghana receive the best of care, support and love. The time is now.

Your Excellency, Child abuse is any intentional or unintentional act to harm a child within relationships of responsibility, trust or power. It happens when a child is hurt or put in danger and it is not an accident, but deliberate. Many children in Ghana suffer too many abuses be it physical, emotional, spiritual, social, psychological and sexual. This does not speak well with us. Even though we are gradually improving and trying to create an enabling environment for children, the statistics do not depict a good and desired situation for Ghana.  About 33% of children in Ghana are said to have been sexually abused. This includes rape, molestation, touching of private parts, watching pornography, the use of inappropriate language, and dirty jokes.  According to the 2014 Demographic Health Survey (DHS), on the average, 1 out of 5 girls in Ghana is married before their 18th birthday. In other words, the percentage of girls between 20-24 years who were married or in a union by the age 18 is 21% nationally.

The 2014 DHS again reports that, 14% of girls aged 15 to 19 years had begun having children. About 29% of children under 5 years do not have birth certificates whiles 22% of children aged 5 to 14 years are engaged in child labour. Children aged 2 – 14 years who experience violent discipline is 94%.

Why these abuses still happen in our country Ghana 60 years on in spite of all the laws, policies and International Protocols signed and the advocacy against child labour is a challenge for us all, to collectively resolve to stop.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is because of the socio-cultural norm that we hold on to as a people. Cultural and social norms are highly influential in shaping individual behaviour, including the use of violence. Norms can protect against violence, but they can also support and encourage the use of it.

For instance, cultural acceptance of violence as a usual part of nurturing a child in the name of discipline, is a risk factor for all types of violence. There is an example of a parent who dipped her child’s hand in hot oil for steeling meat; another also decides to starve the child for the whole day as a form of punishment.  Though I total condemn stealing by any child, it is unacceptable to harm your child and I seriously condemn that.

In many parts of the country, female children are valued less in society than males; female children are considered to have less social and economic potential; children have a low status in society and within the family; physical punishment is an acceptable or normal part of disciplining a child; communities adhere to harmful traditional cultural practices such as genital mutilation, putting a child’s hand in hot soup, starving the child, beating the child etc; lack of enforcement of laws and lack of prosecution; and poor monitoring and evaluation also adversely affect our quest to provide our children a very safe environment.

Even though there are outlets for addressing child abuse in Ghana, there is a lack of safe and trusted ways to report.  In many instances, various forms of abuse against children are not reported because it is widely accepted and seen as normal.  From the adult point of view, the Domestic Violence Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service and the Department of Social Welfare (DSW) may provide safe and trusted ways of reporting but from the child’s point of view, these institutions seem intimidating and not child friendly. For instance, the child is faced with the problem of reporting one adult to another adult, who may see the child as being too outspoken and could even be hostile. In addition, children are often afraid to report abuse because of the shame they feel about it or the possible consequences for themselves and others. These issues make violence against children a hidden problem in Ghana.

Your Excellency, a lot of the child abuse cases reported to DOVVSU or DSW indicate that the vast majority of violence is carried out by people who are part of children’s lives, usually known and trusted by them. These include parents (may be biological or other), relatives, teachers, instructors, law enforcement officials, social workers, and employers.  Strangely, these are persons children usually place their trust in, and yet turn out to be the same persons who turn out to abuse them.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have to rise up to the occasion and unite as Ghanaians Against Child Abuse.  In order to address issues of violence, certain steps have to taken. These include policy formulation, establishment and strengthening of institutions, programmes and projects by MDAs, research, and civil society involvement in publicity and reporting.

Ghana has reformed its legislative framework extensively since 1992 to cover areas that relate to child abuse.  The passage of the Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 650), The Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) (Revised Edition) and the Juvenile Justice Act, 2003 (Act 653) are examples of the Government of Ghana’s commitment to improve the legislative environment to reduce violence against children and other young people. However, in spite of the legislative initiatives made to suppress child abuse, a lot of children still face varying degrees of abuse in Ghana. This is because change in legislation does not necessarily guarantee social and behavioural changes, especially in an instance where the changes are not backed by public and professional education.

Much more work needs to be done to change people’s attitudes, perceptions and actions regarding the appropriate or suitable kinds of corrective measures to apply in situations where children need to be corrected.

Ladies and Gentlemen, in furtherance to the improvement in the protection environment of the child, Government has formulated complementary policies. In terms of violence against children, the policy environment in Ghana is very conducive owing to the steps taken by government and its partners, the current ones being the Child and Family Welfare Policy, Justice for Children Policy, National Social Protection Policy etc. These policies have clearly outlined government’s commitment towards ensuring that a conducive environment is created for all children in Ghana and the Ministry is going a step further by making these policies more accessible by making them available in some local dialects and in audio.

Ladies and Gentlemen, as government, we believe that, we can rise up against child abuse by using 3 major approaches. In the first place, we can end child abuse by enforcing our policy and Legislative frameworks to ensure that the minimum standards are set and adhered to. This also means that stiffer punishments to be given to perpetrators to deter others from engaging in similar acts.

The second approach is by improving services and infrastructure for children as we strengthen institutions as well.

Thirdly, by seeking to change the behaviour of both duty bearers i.e. those who have the responsibility to protect the children, and claim holders e.g. children and the vulnerable, in order to ensure compliance to the provisions of laws, policies and best practices.

I am happy to say that, we have a robust Policy and legislative framework and to further strengthen them, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection is currently undertaking an important exercise to review all child related laws in the country for effective child protection.

The institutional, service and infrastructural development is also ongoing.

The 3rd aspect is what we seek to achieve with the launch of this social drive to help change behaviour of society towards children.

We are hoping that, with a change of behaviour, all socio-cultural norms that enforce the abuse of children in our society will all be eliminated.

I am particularly happy that the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has partnered with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to bring behavioural and social change to all Ghanaians by the use of both traditional and social media platforms.

Your Excellency, what we seek to achieve ultimately with the Ghanaians Against Child Abuse movement is to mobilize communities, families and individuals across our country to stand against all forms of child abuse.  This call to action is for parents to be committed to ensuring a safer Ghana for our children. We invite everyone to become a Ghanaian Against Child Abuse. Become a GACA. –  I Otiko Afisah Djaba, I am a GACA.

It is time we all join hands to raise the awareness for every Ghanaian to understand that child abuse in any form is unacceptable in our society Ghana, 60 years on and to put children first and leave nobody behind or out.

Long live the children of Ghana! Long live Ghana!

Thank you.

According to Genesis real name George Ocansey, he can’t explain the why he is madly in love with Delay but he hopes the two tie the knot soon.

He explained that he would pick Delay over any foreign celebrity or any lady on the planet. Away from his love-life Genesis told his fans to watch out for him in December as he would be releasing some serious songs to his fans.

Conference Declaration calls for international morality in Rastafari trading

The conference, described as ‘mature and purposeful’, will be held annually and Ethiopia will host it again in November 2018.thiopia – October 17, 2017:  each other.

Shashemene, Ethiopia – November 8, 2017:  Over 130 representatives of 12 African countries, Brazil, Seychelles, United Kingdom, United States of America and the Caribbean, concluded the All Africa Rastafari Gathering in Shashemene, Ethiopia, on Tuesday November 7, 2017.

One outcome of the Gathering was the formation of the Rastafari Continental Council, which will convene in South Africa in May, 2018 to bring the report from this Gathering to Ras Tafari communities in Africa. This entity proposed to represent Rastafari in the African continent as a region.

With regard to the dual focus on Representation for Repatriation and intra-Africa trade, the Gathering resolved to advocate expediting the freedom of movement for Africans in Africa as a prerequisite for boosting intra-Africa trade. This issue was highlighted when two delegates, from Malawi and Jamaica respectively, were unable to enter Ethiopia on arrival, as both countries are ineligible for the issuance of visas on arrival.

Other resolutions were for Rastafari representation in African Union structures, responsible use of social media, and sustainability of the Gathering as an annual event with continued focus on intra-Africa trade. However, keynote speaker Dr. Desta Meghoo, during the opening ceremony, cautioned the Gathering against being myopic and insular when thinking of trading relations and proposed a Pan-African scope for the production and manufacture of goods with the ‘Made by Africans’ brand.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Rastafari Global Secretariat, also present at the meeting, resolved to expand its regional framework for representation and to support the Shashemene and other repatriated communities’ pursuit of legal status in Africa. Conference organizers described the gathering as mature and purposeful with delegates completing the agenda in a timely manner and successfully networking for trade.

Determined to advance the goals of cultural sovereignty, economic freedom and cultural industry in a creative economy, the conference Declaration emphasized the Rastafari ethos in the Nation’s trading relations. It also urged accelerating the pace of the African Diaspora’s membership as the 6th Region of the African Union.

Ghana was represented by Royal Moses Kofi Asante, Empress Marina Blake, Ras Amdi Zion and Ahuma Bosco Ocansey whose participation was supported by U.K based Gallery GM.
