Papa Shee agrees like many men of God that, serving God is not easy and all believers must expect challenges and difficult times, “but with God, it is possible to overcome because the bible declares that, “He that is in us is greater than he that is in the world. Jesus Christ of Nazareth even went through that test.”

According to him, Ofori Amponsah cannot serve two masters and “we need to encourage a brother who revert to the things of the world and remember him in prayers.

Also known as ‘Mr All 4 Real’ returned to the Highlife scene with a new single “Alewa” featuring Sarkodie.

What Is Beauty?

Beauty Is …

In all that it is, beauty, for many centuries till date has been the achieving aim of the arts, be it Literature, music, painting or fashion. Coupled with its sister adjective beautiful, they are the fewest words in the English language defined according to dictionary standard. This has caused the word beauty to graduate from a state of being a word to an actual “state of being”.

The simple six letter word till date continues to be one of the most talked about issues paving way for controversies, ideologies of different kinds and day to day discussions. Many have chosen to agree to disagree or conclude that the issue of Beauty is highly subjective.

Almost like second nature, the mention of the word beauty takes the mind to the image of a woman. Woman has grown to become the symbolism and epitome of beauty. Every human born a woman has the discerning right to be referred to as “beautiful”, every woman is a beauty.

Our evolving world and societies have seen the ideology of “a beautiful woman”, change with time. This is especially so in the fashion and entertainment industry: all which have a very big influence on people.  Different societies have different perceptions of what beauty is. There are numerous societal ideologies as well as worldwide ones. For instance in Mauritius to be plump is beautiful while in France to be slim is. It is also seen as beautiful to have a long neck in Kenya.

However, currently a beautiful woman in the global eye is perceived as a woman with a lot of curves; Very small waist, a firm round butt and firm breast as well. Her size isn’t much of an issue at the moment.

The million dollar question then is… “What is beauty?” Many have come to define beauty in different ways, a common description and saying is ‘Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder”. Another group of people believe there is physical and inward beauty. After many years of reading from different viewpoints and ideologies, it is really safe to ask;

What isn’t beauty?

Thinking about it, the “beautiful woman”  trend has moved from  being white, to being blonde, to being dark skinned, mixed blood, Caucasian, tall, petit, slim, and coming down to our  immediate society  from being dark skinned to light skinned and recently drifting between being more natural  haired and Afro centric versus wearing a lot of makeup and hair extension. So what is beauty? Or better still, what isn’t beauty? The world changing ideologies of beauty and the image of a beautiful woman is itself a proof that every image of a woman or being of a woman is beauty. It indirectly answers the question what isn’t beauty? With this, the most important thing every woman should know is that, aside all the ideologies and trends, at the end of the day she, in herself is beauty.  As said early on, women are born with the birth right of being beautiful and so the only thing left for them to do is learn to get to know themselves, accept, appreciate, love and relish in their feminine quality. When a woman feels good about herself from the inside it naturally glows on the outside making her beautiful in her own self. Beauty is in all women, it just takes you to fetch it from within and let it shine. This shouldn’t be much of a hard work but rather women should have pleasure in finding themselves.

Ghanaian women have been noticed to be very beautiful women worldwide. Many male foreigners cannot help but confess to the beauty they have seen. However, it is very noticeable that Ghanaian women are reserved and laidback when it comes to beauty and its relations. Many tend to feel better being a part of a trend or waiting see a trend start before they come out .In a world that accepts people for who they are, it is time the Ghanaian woman takes pride in who she is and come out .

Over the years, Lux beauty bar soap has helped women realize the importance of being truly themselves and feeling beautiful. They have been able to help women find pleasure in being beautiful. Back in 2004, still very young, I remember seeing Genevieve Nnaji walk with so much charm and elegance in that Lux advert.

My fairytale wish to be Nnaji came to a halt when the voice over said “Star brings out the star in you” from that moment I knew I could have all that Genevieve being no one but myself.  While not directly addressing the issue, Lux has rather practically proven to women that being beautiful requires that you feel good about yourself and look good as well. With the use of different women from all walks of life as brand ambassadors they send a message that every woman is beautiful and most importantly, a woman can only achieve beauty at a time when she is absolutely and truly herself, a time when she can embrace herself and feel beautiful. A feeling that moves around her sending messages to people around that she is proud in her womanhood.

Women have always worshiped the “shower time ritual” and LUX understands that it is at that time, when she is natural in all forms that she feels completely a woman, igniting her femininity and relishing I it.

Lux believes that beauty is one of the female instincts that should not be denied. It is what makes a woman, it is what makes beauty. If you don’t feel something, how do you express it? How does it show?

It is time the Ghanaian woman gets to know herself better, accept and love herself and relish in the power she holds by simply being a woman. Remember, every woman is beautiful; she is the definition of beauty.

This is because they have been neglected by everybody. Everyone is thinking they are about to die so they don’t care. Funny enough, they actually touch me more than the young ones. She has also revealed that her parents are supportive of her decision to join Miss Ghana 2015. Also the pageant has so far been a learning process for her and the other contestants.

“My parents are encouraging. They are looking out for me. They are great parents…Miss Ghana has been a learning process too. We learn how to sit as women, how to talk, eat and everything in general. It’s mostly how to relate to people,” she said.

According to the dictionary of Emmanuel Nana Appiah Boakye a.k.a Kontihene he owns the songs with the longest mileage and the best content in Ghana and possibly in Africa and he is not the PRO for any artiste who feels bothered by this fact.

Using his songs as an instance, he stated that, “In the club currently, songs that patrons jam to which has been in existence for over 15- 16 years are mine, Nana Appiah songs. So who is bothered or is against that?  After all I’m not anybody’s song.”

Speaking with Ekow Poncho BREEZE 90.9 FM’s Entertainment show, SHOWBIZ TODAY, Kontihene was speaking relating to a story tagged with his name that he was the only musician in Ghana with good content. He lamented that he may sound pompous but he was only marketing his product as an artiste and not a marketer for anyone.KONTIHENE

“I may sound pompous but I am proud of myself and what I do, I am no PRO for anyone so whoever that has a problem with my comment, the fellow should come forward and comment too. All I’m saying is my songs ‘Asesa’, ‘Dedeede’ and others are still banging everywhere in the country”.

During the interviews, Kontihene he is not justifying that there is no good artiste in the country but all he wanted to say was to encourage other musicians to create good content in their songs.

In his last words he said Ghana had over 24 million population and if 1million out of that would hate or dislike him, that would not be a bother to him at all.

A Piece Of Peace: Making Difficult Choices

$
0
0

Hello and welcome to this week’s piece of peace, your weekly dose of motivation and inspiration. Today I would like to share with you on the topic of “Making Difficult Choices.”

Two weeks ago I was faced with a tough decision to make. It was something I had never faced before so it left me slightly confused as to which way to go.

In times where this happens I do one of two things. Firstly, I look through my different sources of motivational materials and see who has the right advice that most suits what I need. Secondly, I seek advice from people I respect and I know can give me unbiased and honest feedback.

Everybody has one of those and if you don’t then it is important you find someone you trust to fill those shoes. For me, that person is my Mother. She is the one person that does not manage my feelings and no matter what the truth is, for better or for worse, she delivers the information with the same love and care as always.

The decision making process is never an easy one. No matter how prepared or focused you are there are always going to be some sleepless nights over really big decisions. Sometimes that pressure is so intense that it forces us to completely disregard logical and well thought out steps in favour of the easiest and fastest solutions.

A friend of mine had to make a choice between two guys who were actively fighting for her attention. Both men represented two sides of things she wanted the most. The first man was super romantic, caring and affectionate but did not really have a steady job and hence an unreliable financial situation.

The second was wealthy and well established. He owned several businesses and had even gone as far as opening a fashion line for her. In contrast, he had no romance. My friend was torn between the two.

On the one hand, she was a hopeless romantic but at the same time she needed financial help and support. Faced with the tough decision about the two men, she decided to date both men until she got caught cheating and consequently lost both of them in the end.

Big decisions can cause serious stress in your life. They can cloud your mind and thereby prevent you from committing to a solid path. This is because, our emotions tend to cloud our judgment and because many of us cannot separate the two, it becomes a struggle to make the right choices. One good way of dealing with a difficult situation is trying to put yourself in the advisory position for a friend.

In other words, pretend like you are giving advice to a friend who is dealing with the situation you are in.  What would you say to them. Would you tell them to do what you strongly want to do base on your emotions or would you take a logical approach and point them in the right direction. Uncertainty is a very tricky thing. It implies instability, which causes our brains to immediately perceive danger.

We are all accustomed to doing the same things because by default we are all creatures of habit. Sometimes when faced with a difficult decision, challenging yourself could offer you the solution you need. This means doing the exact opposite of what you would normally do by confronting your default behavior and stepping outside your comfort zone.

It can certainly be a trying time when this happens but the most important thing to remember is Do not panic. Take your time and think clearly, removing any short-term emotions and seeking advice from people you trust and in the end everything will fall into place. And always remember, be yourself, because everyone else is taken.

Much Love,

Peace Hyde.

There seem to be some magic working in the favour of 25-year old upcoming artiste, Nii Funny, as his newly released single, ‘Broken Heart’, is suddenly playing everywhere an attracting a lot of attention to him.

Surprisingly, the track has not had a lot of air play on mainstream radio but is very strong on the streets and has become the favourite at parties, events, and ceremonies especially in Accra.

Though the song’s original title is ‘Broken Heart’, it is more known on the streets with its hook line, ‘Yooko Ebreaki Me’, an expression in the Ga language which translates as ‘a woman has broken me’. Some also refer to the song as ‘A Woman Can Break A Man’.

“I don’t know what is working well for the song but everywhere I go, I hear people playing it and dancing to it. They do not even believe it is my song and when we tell them it is mine, they do not take me serious. We are still pushing it and when you meet ten people to give them the CD, six of them say they already have the song and the feedback is pushing us to work harder.

Nii Funny

Nii Funny

“It is not all that popular on radio yet but we are working hard to get there and I am not afraid of that because my manager is a media person and we have a dedicated team working hard so we are sure it is a matter of time. We are working hard and leaving the rest to God”, Nii Funny explained.

On first hearing the song, the impression one forms is that the chorus is about a woman breaking the virginity of a man. The message however is about how a in love relationship, the female partner is equally capable of breaking the heart of the male partner.

The song started gaining popularity along Accra’s coastal town of Gamashi, La, Osu, James Town, Teshi, Nungua and Tema but has suddenly spread fast to other across the capital city.

‘Broken Heart’ is becoming Nii Funny’s most popular song although he has a few other tracks including ‘Judas’, ‘Goliath’, ‘My Life’ and ‘TOTO’ in which he featured Gasmila.

“If you don’t like how you look, then change it” these were the words of a plastic surgeon in an infomercial. Just like that infomercial, many cosmetic and make up adverts sometimes leave us thinking that beauty is unattainable, can be bought from a cosmetic shop or is very expensive.

They make us feel beauty is unattainable because they usually present, in their commercials, models who are near perfect and dare I say flawless. Makeup commercials make beauty out to be too plastic and as though it is a commodity that is readily available over the counter.

Read Also: What Is Beauty?

Plastic surgeons on the other hand only just reinforce that you need to have a fat bank account in order to get them to sculpture you into that beautiful figure you desire. Expensive, unattainable or buyable, the question is, are these perceptions real?

These perceptions are usually as a result of a misconception between beauty and pretty or good looking. A beautiful person is not the same as a pretty or good looking person, they may be synonyms but they certainly are not the same. Being pretty is only surface deep, it can be touched up with a cosmetic here and a make up there. That’s a pretty face. But beauty is a lot deeper than a pretty face, beauty is from a place where you cannot touch up with make-up. It’s from within, true beauty is not about make up because a pretty face is nothing without a pretty heart to match.

The kind of beauty we must all strive to have is the one that spreads a warmth around to everyone, the kind that is so infectious that it brightens up someone’s darkest moments. Beauty is in the smile that gives joy to the person who is having a bad day, it’s in the kind gesture that you effortlessly render to that needy person and it’s in the confidence in yourself and your abilities.

Confidence is an attribute of beauty. A confident woman is automatically beautiful, she understands herself, she is not afraid to express herself and does not allow herself to fit into or be defined by the unattainable beauty standards set by society. She sets her own beauty standards, whether dark or fair, size 18 or 0, kinky or permed hair, tall or short, nothing holds her back. She loves herself not too much to make her look down on others but just enough to appreciate and respect others. She feels beautiful in her own skin and refuses to let anyone make her feel inadequate.

Nothing you say can bring her down, she knows and accepts herself for who she is, she is fearless. That’s what we term a LUX woman. She is assertive, knows what she want, and does not allow anything to keep her down. That’s the kind of beauty we must all aspire to have, the kind that is within you. Let’s call it the spark, that thing they spurs you to greater heights. It can’t be bought because it’s a feeling, just like the feeling you get when you bathe with LUX.

Beauty is within you, finding your spark is what makes you unstoppable. Ignite the spark that brings out the confidence in you. Ignite your spark, with just a little LUX.

When I preach I don’t charge – Evangelist Lord Kenya

It seems like yesterday but it’s been five years since rap heavyweight champion, Lord Kenya, became born again and though he lives a very fulfilled life now, he admits that it hasn’t been easy.

In an interview with Showbiz last Tuesday, Evangelist Lord Kenya admitted that the journey has not been easy but it has been worth it and he has no regrets whatsoever, ‘’ God in His wisdom knows why He brought me into the Kingdom and He has been very faithful to me,’’ he said.

Touching on some of the challenges he has gone through during this period, Lord Kenya said that when he was in the world, he was doing concerts and it was bringing in a lot of money.

“ When I do a concert, I know how much I can get, when I preach, I don’t charge, how do I take care of the family but I know the one who called me is faithful, He always makes a way.”

When asked whether there were certain things he used to do in the past that he misses now, Lord Kenya replied in an emphatic “no adding that it is only when one does not understand those things that he will miss them, “I am very fulfilled because the one who called me is faithful and He makes a way when there seems to be no way.”Lord Kenya & Miss Ghana 2013 finalists Mentor Borstal inmates (1)

This reporter asked Lord Kenya if he was a happy person and this is what he had to say, “I am a very joyous person, happiness is based on circumstances. I have Jesus, the one who will be there forever so I am a very joyous person.”

Reacting to Ofori Amponsah’s return to secular music, Lord Kenya said “it is so sad. We both know where we are coming from, for him to leave this grace and go back is something else. The righteous man can fall seven times but God can let him stand. On the other hand, if any of the souls he(Ofori Amponsah) saved get lost, he will be accountable for those souls,” he said.

Lord Kenya used the opportunity to outline the programme for his fifth anniversary celebration. Since he had the encounter with God on October 28 five years ago, there will be a prophetic revival from Wednesday, October 28, to Friday October 30, at the Face of Grace Covenant Temple near Melcom, Ahodwo in Kumasi. There will also be Stars and Fans Fellowship on October 31, the climax will be a Thanksgiving Service on November 1.

According to Lord Kenya, artistes like Uncle Ato, Brother Sammy, Anita Afriyie, Agnes Opoku Agyemang, Prophet Seth Frimpong, Agape Incoporated, Mercy Asiedu, Pastor Joe Beecham and a host of others will all be passing through.

To his fans, he said, “I love you all, above that, know that Christ loves you unconditionally.”

Suspended Nana Aba Anamoah is still with TV3

Suspended newscaster and presenter at TV3 Nana Aba Anamoah has denied rumours making rounds that she has decided to leave the station to another one.

Some local news websites and blogs have over the past week been posting a story attributed to kwamesays.wordpress.com that the TV presenter was “heading towards Starr TV”, which according to the story would be the new name of GhOne TV when EIB Network eventually takes over the station from the Multiple Concepts Group.

Although the story doesn’t mention any source from which the story was received, the author claimed he had information to that effect.

However, in a brief phone chat with Graphic Showbiz last Monday, Nana Aba Anamoah emphatically denied that she was going to another television station. She told this paper that she had not spoken to anyone about whether or not she was leaving TV3 and was therefore surprised to have heard that.

Asked whether she would be leaving TV3 to another station, she said she was still an employee of the station and that should be the end of the matter.

It would be recalled that about three weeks ago, Nana Aba Anamoah was suspended by TV3 following a public outcry when she was accused by someone on Twitter of passing off photos of he and his friends at Old Trafford as her own.

Although she later explained and apologised that it was a prank she was playing that went bad, TV3 issued a statement to announce that its most popular television news presenter and host of the breakfast show, New Day, and Saturday morning sports show, Diva Show, had been taken off air.

The statement signed by its CEO, Augusts Dickson, stated among other things that “after preliminary investigations internally, and in accordance with TV3’s own commitment to the highest level of professionalism, Management has decided to take Nana Aba Anamoah off air until further notice.

“As a broadcast network that prides itself in upholding high ethical standards and delivering credible and trustworthy content to its viewers, TV3 would like to assure viewers and other key stakeholders that it shall continue to take all necessary steps to maintain such standards,” the statement noted.

Graphic Showbiz would learn later from sources close to the station that besides being taken off air, the petite presenter was also told not to show up at work till the issue was investigated and resolved and also she would receive half her salary during the period.Nana Aba Anamoah

Following this action by the management of TV3, many public figures have expressed misgivings about the decision with some even calling on the management to reconsider their decision and to reinstate the presenter.

Accra-based radio presenter and host of the late afternoon show on Okay FM Abeiku Santana, tweeted that, “I strongly disagree with the management of TV3 wit e decision of taking Nana Aba off air. Except they want to tell us they ve never erred b4.” (sic.)

On his part, hiplife legend, Reggie Rockstone, also tweeted thus, “Damm! Tv3 YALL did nanaba cold yo! Not since Judas did Jesus! Smh! #NOTSKOLOM! #JUSTHINKINGOUTLOUD! #notthatserious” (sic.)

Another hiplife artiste, Criss Waddle thought the management was unfair if they sacked her. “If TV3 has really sacked Nana Aba over the recent soccer picture issue, then that’s so unfair on their part”

Meanwhile, the person at the centre of the storm, Nana Aba Anamoah who was briefly off Twitter has returned with her usual sarcastic tweets and responses.

Miss Ghana contestant, Afua Asieduwaa Akrofi has said though she is hopeful to become Miss Ghana 2015, with or without the crown she will use her personality to influence society in a positive way.

According to the beautiful young lady, Miss Ghana is not just about winning but impacting the lives of people in society.

“Miss Ghana is a great platform. I want to use Miss Ghana to deeply influence people’s lives in a positive way. Sometimes it is not just about giving to people what you have but also sharing your story with them. What you tell people also motivates them so I want to share my story with the people, with or without winning. Miss Ghana is not just about winning; it is a whole experience. I am learning and having fun on the platform. If I win I will be happy; if I don’t, I will still pursue my project. I want to create awareness on Lupus, an autoimmune disease mostly in women who have passed their puberty. It sometimes affects your brain, skin, liver, etc. It is a silent killer and most people don’t know about it,” she told NEWS-ONE.

Afua is representing the Northern Region of Ghana at this year’s Miss Ghana pageant. She is 22 years of age and hails from Larteh in the Eastern Region. From a family of five, she is the third born and the only girl of her family. She is currently studying Political Science and Theatre Arts at the University of Ghana. She had her secondary education at Krobo Girls Senior High School.

She hopes to become a lawyer in the near future because she likes “the way lawyers carry themselves.”

“When I was young, I used to like the way lady lawyers dress in movies. It looks beautiful but on a serious note I want to be a lawyer to uphold justice in Ghana,” she said.

She is currently representing the Northern Region on the Miss Ghana platform because that was where she auditioned.

“I have learnt a lot about the Northern Region. How they greet… People in the north are lovely people. One thing that I noticed about northerners is that they are respectful. The women especially respect their husbands and kings. I like the way women stand up for their husbands and children. It’s amazing and unique,” she concluded.Afua Asieduwaa Akrofi
