The month of May was celebrated as Africa Month by MultiChoice Ghana. DStv and GOtv celebrated Africa with Africa-inspired content from sports, movies, fashion, lifestyle news and documentaries.
To end the celebration, MultiChoice Ghana held an Africa Day Movie Night on the 30th of May at the Alisa Hotel and screened the movie “Love Regardless”. In attendance were various media personalities as well as some subscribers and members of staff.
The movie was produced by Ghanaian actress Zynnell Zuh, who was recently nominated for the 2015 AMVCA Best Movie (Comedy) for her movie “When Love Comes Around”. She was also the lead actress in the film. Love Regardless follows the story of a young struggling musician, Ivory (played by Zynnell Zuh), with a Law degree whose dream is to record a hit song and break into the music. Her journey is not without drama both from home (by her mother played by Paulina Oduro) who would rather her daughter pursues her law career and in her love life, when she falls in love with her friends dad.
The storyline had the audience either laughing or in tears.
The General Manager for MultiChoice Ghana, Cecil Sunkwa – Mills, in his address mentioned that “Africa Magic is pleased to also be on board with our Africa actors/actresses on all their projects. Zynell’s Love Regardless captures the daily African life as we know it and we can all relate to it. We are always pleased to see our local shows and movies not only on DStv or GOtv but the world over. We hope for ore brilliant work from all our producers and directors. ”
Earlier in the year, executives of Africa Magic visited Ghana and held a stakeholders’ forum with the Film Producers and Directors associations of Ghana as well as actors to take them through the various requirements a film needs to meet in order for it to meet international standards.
MultiChoice and Africa Magic are committed to showcasing African talents in various ways and recognizing them as was recently shown in the 2015 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
