Last Sunday night team mates and patrons of the ongoing MTN Soccer Academy Skuulz Challenge 3 were shocked when in an unexpected turn of events; two team mates were evicted from the competition.
Even though double evictions are not new to the Soccer Reality TV Show, not many fans expected it would come this early in the competition, until the Executioner Eddy Blay Jnr, finally dropped his axe to the disbelief of the crowd.
First to be evicted was the 1.64cm midfielder, Ibrahim Adams teammate #9, from Obuasi Secondary Technical School. The speedster, who was also referred to as “Chabalala” would obviously be missed for his invaluable contributions to the team.
Ibrahim#9, a natural left winger and playmaker was slow to peak in form but his game was improved after the third week in the competition when Coach Yaw Acheampong withdrew him to a wing-back position, with quick counter attacks, over-lapping runs, teasing crosses and some delightful deft goals.
Following in the heels of Ibrahim #9 was John Mensah #13, who represented the Super Star International School. Being the youngest of the team mates, the fifteen year-old was obviously the “darling boy” of the House, and would be missed for his strong attacking skills and affable personality.
Although Mensah suffered an ankle injury that ruled him out of competitive soccer for the first two weeks of the show, the aggressive holding midfielder recovered quickly into the starting lineup of The MTN Soccer Academy team
In the night’s five a-side match, the teammates hosted Accra based FC Mayoka in a rather cagey encounter.
The visitors who seemed to have also come with a very well-rehearsed plan clearly had everything working well for them until a late free-kick conceded in the closing moments of the game was brilliantly converted into a perfect finish by Quaye #12. The game ended 1-0 in favour of the team mates.
On the flip side, it was D2 and Dobble who lighted up the evening with electrifying performances which sent the teeming fans wild with excitement.
The night also saw a new captain as the arm band was handed over to Quaye #12.
The eviction of Adams and Mensah leaves the number of team mates to eleven and one can only expect that the competition would get keener and more exciting in the coming evictions.
The next eviction comes off this Sunday at the MTN Soccer Academy House and Fans are urged to power their Favorite team mate to stay in the House by texting his number to the short code 1584 on MTN and all other networks.
