Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has died and his brother Salman has become the kingdom’s new ruler.
King Abdullah, 90, took power in 2005 after the death of his half-brother King Fahd.
He underwent surgery in recent years related to a herniated disc, and was hospitalised in December for pneumonia.
The death was announced on Saudi state television, which reported the monarch passed away on Friday.
The new King Salman, 79, had recently taken over the ailing ruler’s responsibilities.
