One of Eastern Region’s finest radio presenters, Kwame Dadzie of Vision 90.9FM has left the station after working there for about three years now, Flex newspaper has learnt.
According His Royal Smoothness, as he is affectionately called by his fans, he decided to quit Vision FM to take up new challenges in life.
“Well, I really considered so many factors before baling out. I think I have paid my dues at the station. It is now time for me to try other things. While at Vision FM, I acquired a lot of knowledge and I will always appreciate my late former boss Oliver for discovering my talent,” he said.
But where is Kwame headed? Is he joining the new stations that are that are coming to town, the old ones or is moving to Accra as has been rumoured?
“Honestly, I have had a couple of offers both from some stations here in Kofcity and those in Accra and I am taking time to choose which one to be with. You know, I have to take my time to make the right move because we have had presenters who have suffered for not making the right move. The right time will be rife soon,” Kwame explained.
Kwame Dadzie started radio at Krush FM in 2009 in Koforidua when he hosted a show called Get In Touch. Not long, he joined George Ayisi as his producer on Sunrise FM’s entertainment show dubbed Ultimate Chart Show.
In 2011, he moved to Eastern FM where he produced the Eastern Chart Show hosted by Londona and even presented the tit – bits segment. In the same year, he produced Abeiku Desmond’s Emak Countdown on Emak FM.
Then on 18th March 2012, Kwame was invited by the late Vision FM boss Oliver Desbordes Acquah to handle their entertainment show Arts and People. Kwame did that expertly and in 2014 was nominated in the Radio and Television Personality Awards as Best Radio Personality in the Eastern Region.
Arts and People was an authoritative entertainment brand in the Eastern Region that discussed very relevant issues in the entertainment circles. Kwame was the first entertainment presenter in Ghana to discuss all creative arts disciplines on an entertainment show. He didn’t only do music and movies; he covered creative writing, comedy, painting, sculpture, weaving, radio, fashion, dance, television, photography, poetry and the like.
Though Vision FM was a hundred percent English – speaking radio station, Kwame Dadzie was able to win more listeners from the mass market with his coruscating wit, unbridled sense of humor, smooth voice, incisive questioning abilities and the awesome tact in presentation.
Apart from Arts and People, he also hosted Campus Edition, a show that shed light on issues and activities related to secondary and tertiary institutions in the country.
Dadzie is an old student of Koforidua Secondary School (now Oti Boateng Senior High School) where he was the Senior School Prefect. Even though an Agricultural Science student, Kwame had a knack for the creative arts and was very active in school entertainment activitis, Debaters Club, Creative Writers club and the school choir.
“While my course mates were reading chemistry books and were finding titre values, I would be in the library reading literature books, writing poems, plays and composing songs,” he disclosed.
In 2003, he then proceeded to Presbyterian Training College (Presbyterian College of Education) and trained as a teacher. According to him, he had always wanted to be a presenter and even at the senior high school he was attending auditions in Accra to be a presenter. At the training college, he still was active in his creative arts activities. He sang, rapped, wrote poems, plays and articles for the creative writers club and Graphic Showbiz, and even did satire during entertainment nights on campus; he imitated Radio Gold’s Kokonsa and used that to address serious issues students and the Student Representative Council dreaded to vent to the school’s administration.
Kwame also tells Flex newspaper that he is a musician: “Anytime I say I am a musician people don’t believe it and I am sure they think every musician must commercially release a song. I studied music and dance at the Training College, so at least I know and understand the rudiments of music. I once auditioned with some friends of mine for Nescafe African Revelations but we couldn’t make it to the finals. I have a couple of recorded songs resting in my archives. I just feel like doing media work for the time being.”
The enterprising radio gem whose impeccable command over the Queens language and his high intellect gives him the edge over most his colleagues, is one of the main brains behind the formation of the Presenters Association of the Eastern Region, a presenters’ association in the Eastern Region that seeks to unify presenters in the region, attend to their welfare and ensure professionalism in their work.
Currently, he is in his final year at the University of Ghana, studying Political Science and Sociology. He also doubles as the Deputy Editor of Flex newspaper, the number one entertainment newspaper in Ghana today.
“I love radio. I love to talk. I love language but I also love to write. In fact, I write with my voice and talk with my pen,” he quipped.
Kwame Dadzie is married to Givti Abena Marfoa Nyamekye, a Senior Administrative Assistant at the Animal Science Department at the University of Cape Coast.
