Victor Dey wins the instrumentalist of the year

Some categories of the Industry Categories at the 2014 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards was awarded yesterday April 26, 2014 at Alisa Hotel in Accra.
Those categories carried 50% voting weight each from the Board and the Academy. The categories include; Gospel Album of the Year, Record of the year, Songwriter of the year, Producer of the year, Sound Engineer of the year, Instrumentalist of the year, Traditional Artiste of the year, Music for Development, MUSIGA Merit Award and Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Industry Awards is an integral part of the main awards. It was graced by musicians, producers, sound engineers, artistes managers as well as movie personalities.
The surprise on the night was when Bisa KDei ‘miraculously’ picked the Songwriter of the Year award with his song Baba, ahead of OJ’s Maye Se Wo Pen which was tipped by many industry pundits to scoop the award home. Patrons were disappointed as Bisa KDei walked to pick his award.

I believe this is where the Did you vote tagline comes into the picture. OJ also lost the Gospel Album of the Year award to Joyce Blessing but he quickly put everything behind him and rocked the venue with a wonderful performance which had every patron dancing and singing along with him.
Another surprise was that, the Best Female Vocalist and Best Male Vocalist categories will be awarded at the main awards night on May 3, 2014 at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Hiplife/ Hip Hop Artiste of the Year nominee, Manifest was a delight to watch. He will be that competition to Okyeame Kwame. New Artiste of the Year nominee, Akwaboah also wowed the patrons with his performance. Deensi from Tamale didn’t disappoint with their performance.
New Dancehall act, MzVee was adjudged as the winner of new category added to the awards, UNSUNG. She will have the opportunity to perform on the main awards night.
Kwabena Kwabena’s Save A Life won the Music for Development category which was sponsored by the World Bank. He picked it ahead of Raphius Amigos’s Female Genital Mutilation and Gasmilla’s Letter to the Government.
For winning, Kwabena Kwabena will be awarded GHC 3,000.00 from World Bank Ghana. GHC 1,000.00 each for Raphius Amigo and Gasmilla.
